ENTENARY MEDAL LAUNCHED

Letchworth Garden City Rotary Club has produced a commemorative medal to celebrate the centenary of the town and raise money for charity.

Nearly 70 people, including local MP Oliver Heald, attended a launch dinner at the Letchworth Hall Hotel.

The medal has been produced in partnership with ICAS-Vilas Fine Art, of Letchworth, The Royal Mint and John Mills, an award-winning coin and medal designer, who lives locally.

It is based on some window designs typical of the town and features the head of Ebenezer Howard, whose book – ‘Garden Cities of Tomorrow’ - led directly to the development of Letchworth, the world’s first garden city, in 1903.

Limited editions of the medal in gold, silver and bronze are available, as well as a more affordable ‘open’ edition in nickel brass, costing £9.90.

Rotary Club President Mike Davies said: “The medal commemorates Letchworth’s unique past and makes an ideal keepsake or gift. We are hoping it will sell really well and raise lots of money for Foundation and our local charities.”

The medal was the brainchild of club member Sunil Vilas, who runs ICAS-Vilas Fine Art and is a governor of Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.

He described the medal as an “exciting work of art.”
