LOCAL ROTARIANS HELP FLOOD RELIEF EFFORT
Letchworth Rotarians were out in force on Saturday (March 11), collecting money for the Mozambique Relief Fund.
The town centre collection was organised at short notice by Letchworth Garden City Rotary Club following harrowing television scenes of the flood disaster.
The decision was taken at the club's 75th anniversary dinner at the Letchworth Hall Hotel,
which was attended by national Rotary President John Hockin and guests from other clubs.
It is the first time in 10 years that the British head of Rotary has visited the area.
"We just felt we had to do something and we are very grateful to North Hertfordshire District Council for allowing the collection at short notice," said John Ritchie, the club's International Committee Chairman. "We are using our Rotary contacts in South Africa to channel the money to where it is most needed. We hope people will give generously to help those now in desperate need of rescue, food and shelter."
The appeal raised more than £1000.00.
