Garden City Charity Walk - May 2006
|
Rotarians of the Letchworth Garden City Club were out in force to organise their annual Charity Walk event recently. Club members manned checkpoints along the route to help keep walkers on the straight and narrow and with the support of the Inner Wheel and scout groups, provided two well-stocked refreshment stops at the Radwell Meadows and Manor Wood checkpoints. Over 130 walkers from a range of charities, organisations and schools slogged their way around the 15 mile route, which uses the pathways of the Letchworth Greenway. Each walker who completed the course received a certificate and a handshake from the club president, Allan Patterson. Walk organiser, Rotarian Rod Whitworth said: “It was another very successful event and although the number of walkers was fewer than last year, the money raised was up on the previous total. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and thankfully the weather was kind.”
The event raised a total of almost £8,000
for local charities, of which £2,500 will go to Rotary charities. |
