AGINCOURT

Following a talk on the Battle of Agincourt at one of their weekly meetings, members of Letchworth Garden City Rotary Club decided to see for themselves.

A group of 23 members, partners and friends spent a pleasant night in Saint Omer - where the secretary of the local Rotary Club joined them for pre-dinner drinks - and the next morning visited the site of the famous encounter of 1415.

Allan Patterson, the club's resident battlefield historian who sparked off the whole idea with his talk to the club, duly brought the whole thing to life with a fascinating account of the background and tactics of the opposing forces.
It was particularly fitting that the visit took place on the anniversary of the battle - October 25th, 1999. Many thanks to Peter Deary, Fellowship Committee Chairman, for his organisational skills which made the visit so enjoyable.
